If you’re not sure where to start with your sourdough starter, this is the spot for you! You just need 2 things, flour and water! That’s if you’re starting from scratch. If you are lucky enough to get some from someone else, then you can skip ahead a little.
For newbies, you will mix together 1tbsp of warm water and 1 tbsp of flour into a paste. You will cover this and let sit for about 12 hours and repeat. You will NOT discard right away. You will repeat this process of adding a little for 3 days. If you go longer than 12 hours, that is totally fine as well. No need to fret.
After day 3, you will get a false rise. Once you get that false rise, you will start discarding a little at east feeding. After day 7, then you will be able to start using this for breads.
Already got some starter from someone?
Great! Then you will discard and continue to feed a 1:1:1 ratio. Example, 5g of starter, 5g warm water, 5g of flour. Your starter is probably already good to go and use for breads, just ensure that you have enough to make things!
